Canadian Blood Services is a nation-wide organization that provides lifesaving products and services in transfusion and transplantation for Canadian patients, and safeguards Canada’s systems of life essentials in blood, plasma, stem cells, and organs and tissues.
Allyant was engaged as Construction Manager by Canadian Blood Services to retrofit selected areas in both the Toronto and Brampton facilities. Allyant worked with the client to renovate the main floor lobby and atrium as well as tenant spaces on an upper floor of the Toronto facility on College Street. Main floor features include a new glazed partition with lockable double doors to separate the donor clinic from the lobby area, in addition to a staff breakroom created inside the clinic. Upper floor renovations consisted of the consolidation of tenant areas throughout the building to a single level, showcasing new flooring, ceilings, and office furniture, high-efficiency LED lighting, fire protection sprinkler coverage to suit the new ceilings and partitioning, and modified HVAC and air distribution. New washrooms were created to accommodate universal access and hands-free operation.
At the Brampton facility, Allyant installed a new autoclave with mechanical and electrical service connections and re-configured an existing laboratory space.
In both facilities, Allyant ensured that building operations were maintained throughout the construction duration without any disruption, developing phasing and implementing carefully considered scheduling of work to allow CBS to remain fully operational.
